Too authentic? You're stupid!

Texas and Oklahoma cities are not known as culinary meccas, but it still never fails to amuse me when someone says they don't like something because it's "too authentic".

(I'm not commenting on other states as I have not lived in other places long enough to have an opinion.)

I'm constantly searching for new culinary adventures. The purer the experience the more excited my little organ gets. And my tongue does love the stimulation.

I've had everything from fried crickets in Bangkok to chicken testicles in Taipei. All this before Bizarre Foods and Fear Factor.

So when "too authentic" is used by a person to describe why he/she doesn't like something, I think it's stupid.

I can understand if certain foods are not for everyone. It's a matter of personal preference. Taste, texture, smell, aesthetics, the idea of eating certain animals and body parts are all valid. But "too authentic"?

Would you say that about prosciutto from Parma, Italy or Pétrus from Pomerol, France? Only if you're STUPID.

Imagine the amount of brain power it took to think that up. That statement is not only condescending but also very insulting.
